History

Mike Jomaa, founder and CEO of Modern Beauty Supplies, came to Canada from Lebanon in 1966. In 1986 the Jomaa family began selling cosmetic products in the Calgary area for the first time. What started out of their basement quickly outgrew their original location, moving into their current location within nine months of startup.

The early years were not easy, especially when they lost a product line, which accounted for 40% of their business. But despite the loss of the line, 99% of their clients stuck with them – and with that, they felt if they are going to stick by them, they are going to stick by the clients. So they went out and found a new product line.

The company has grown substantially since then. It carries world-renowned lines such as Schwarzkopf, Tigi and Farouk, and services salons, spas and other beauty businesses throughout Western Canada from offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Burnaby and Victoria. In 23 years, Modern Beauty Supplies Inc. evolved from a basement operation to a multi-million dollar business that employs over 200 employees and has enjoyed annual double-digit growth since its inception. Today, Modern Beauty Supplies is Western Canada's largest Beauty Supply company.

The Jomaa family still operates Modern Beauty Supplies from its headquarters in Calgary. “Canada has given me everything I could have wanted. Here, I’m part of the community. Indeed my entire family is embedded in this community and in this nation”, Mike Jomaa says.
